心の健康は、身体の健康とならんで人生における生活の質(QOL) を大きく左右します。特に、思春期の心身の発達・健康は、個人の長期的人生の基盤となるだけでなく、社会全体の活力の源ともなります。一方、100歳を超えてもなお元気な方が珍しくない長寿社会が到来しています。超高齢社会においては、多くの方々が認知症を経験するわけですが、認知症があったとしても、いきいきとその人らしく生活できる社会の仕組みを創り上げていく必要があります。
私ども心の健康ユニットでは、大都市東京で暮らす子どもたちのメンタルヘルスや高齢者の多くが経験する認知症など、都民の健康と暮らしに直結する精神保健課題の解決に向けて社会医学的な研究手法を駆使し、挑戦を続けていきます。
人が生まれてから年老いていくまでの長期的生涯をより精神的に豊かにするための社会の在り方、環境の在り方をコホート研究やランダム化比較試験などの社会疫学、臨床疫学の方法論を用いて明らかにし、都民の心の健康づくりと向上につながる社会還元を目指します。
